Nigeria: EI Vice President elected President of the Nigerian Labour Congress

Omar, who also leads the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), succeeds Adams Oshiomhole. The NLC Congress, which was held on 15-16 February in Abuja, discussed the very unstable political conditions and the all pervasive financial and political corruption in the country. Adams Oshiomhole leaves the NLC after having led the trade union centre for eight years. He is seen as having restored the strength and status of the NLC and is regarded one of its historic figures.
