Canada: The CTF organises 2nd Media Education Week
It will take place from 5-9 November 2007. The National Media Education Week was created to promote media education and encourage media literacy activities throughout Canada. It aims to ensure children and youth possess the necessary critical thinking skills and tools to understand and actively engage with media. The activity is sponsored by CTVglobemedia, Canada's premier multi-media company and is led jointly by the CTF and the Media Awareness Network, a Canadian not-for-profit centre of expertise and excellence in media education. "Canada is ahead of much of the world when it comes to integrating media education into our schools and communities, but we have a long way to go before it becomes a part of every child's education," said Cathy Wing, Acting Executive Director of Media Awareness Network. "This pivotal sponsorship from CTVglobemedia enables us to spread the word about the importance of media education as a forward- thinking strategy for creating thoughtful, engaged and informed young people." Her comments support the observation by CTF President Emily Noble of "the importance of a major media network recognizing the need for media awareness on the part of Canadian youth".
