Council of Pacific Education adopts Code of Ethics
The declaration was adopted at COPE's last bi-annual meeting in Fiji following intensive discussions. Stakeholders from the teaching profession's several sectors supported delegates in their decision-making. Moreover, participants used the EI Declaration on Professional Ethics as a foundation for the new Code. Govind Singh, COPE General Secretary, said: "The teaching profession and the communities teachers serve have an expectation of high standards of ethical behaviour. Teachers in the South Pacific are committed to these high standards and will thoroughly implement these recommendations." He went on to add: "To that end, UNICEF has offered to fund pilot training programmes at national and school level in two countries." - President: Mr. Tevita Koroi (Fijian Teachers' Association)
- Vice President: Tili Afamasaga (Samoa National Teachers Association)
- Vice President: Penehuro Hauma (Tuvalu Teachers' Association)
- Vice President: Darcel Russell (Australian Education Union)
- Vice President : Judith Nowotarski (New Zealand Educational Institute - Te Riu Roa)
- Women’s Network Co-ordinator: Ms. Mary Susurua (Solomon Island National Teachers Association)
- Assistant Women’s Network Co-ordinator: Christine Cooper (Independent Education Union of Australia)
