Relief for victims of the South Asia Earthquake of 2005

Because of the time of the day at which the earthquake struck, around 9 am, many children and teachers were in their classrooms and were buried in the rubble when the school buildings collapsed. EI launched a solidarity appeal for financial assistance on 13 October 2005 to support the teachers and their families most adversely affected by the disaster. In co-operation with our affiliates, the Pakistan Teachers Organisation’s Council (PTOC) and the All India Association for Christian Higher Education (AIACHE), EI will distribute the funds received to the families of students and teachers who died or were injured. The funds will also be used to provide teaching material and essential equipment for badly damaged schools. We would like to thank all the donors who have so generously contributed to the Solidarity Fund.
