About us

As Asia-Pacific is Education International’s largest region in geographical terms, the issues that EI is dealing with differ in diverse cultural, social, political and economic contexts.

In South Asia EI deals with the problems of child illiteracy and child labour, and with the problem of gender equity and HIV/AIDS. It strives to build capacity of young and women members to take leadership roles in their unions.

In Southeast Asia, EI along with its member organizations, works to better organise around union issues including leadership and promote human and trade union rights.

In Northeast Asia, EI has been assisting teachers and other education workers to strengthen their organisations and protect and promote their fundamental freedom to form and join trade unions.

In the Pacific, EI’s affiliates are working on the right to education of indigenous peoples, education for all and the fight against commercialisation of education.
