Supporting south-south cooperation development

At each annual development cooperation meeting, as well as in other activities, EI supports union-to-union solidarity. At this times, two teacher unions are working in this way: the South African Democratic Teachers' Union (SADTU) from South Africa, and the Confederaçao Nacional dos Trabalhadores em Educação (CNTE) from Brazil. They are sustaining south-south cooperation for years now, both in Africa and Latin America and the Caribbean. The CNTE’s case is paradigmatic: they have a long-standing cooperation work not only on the American continent, but in Africa as well. The SADTU is working together with many unions on union unity in the African region.

In these interviews, Mugwena Maluleke and Fatima Da Silva, respectively General Secretaries of SADTU and CNTE, talk about forms and modes of south-south cooperation.
