EI Africa 10th Conference Elects New Leadership and Pledges to Support Quality Public Education

The recently concluded EI Africa 10th Regional Conference under the theme, “Standing Together for Resilient Education Systems in Times of Crisis” at the Sandton Convention Centre, Johannesburg, South Africa, brought together teacher unions, civil society organizations, development partners, and observers from across the African Continent to discuss the challenges facing public education in Africa and devise strategies for ensuring quality education for all. The conference was a resounding success, with participants applauding the well-organized event.
 
One of the highlights of the conference was the election of  new Committee Members. Mariama Chipkaou of Niger was elected as the new Chairperson of the EI Africa Regional Committee, while Richard Gundane of Zimbabwe  was chosen as the Vice Chairperson. This new leadership team is expected to continue the mission of EI Africa in advocating for the well-being of member organizations and campaigning for well-resourced public education.
 
In her acceptance speech, Mariama Chipkaou expressed her gratitude for the confidence placed in her and pledged to advance the cause of EI Africa. The conference also received a significant endorsement from the Minister of Basic Education of the Republic of South Africa, Honourable Matsie Angelina Motshekga. In her closing address, she pledged to use her influence and office to support the #GoPublic #FundEducation campaign. This commitment from a high-ranking government official is a positive step towards ensuring that public education receives the necessary resources and attention it deserves – most especially in Africa.
