Global civil society drive to get Syrian children back to school

Tens of thousands of people have signed the A World at School petition - and pledged more than $1 million - in support of A World at School’s plan to get 400,000 Syrian refugee children back to school. An operational plan to make this a reality exists but needs funding.

OCHA pledging conference to keep focus on education

On 15 January, the international donor community will convene at a pledging conference hosted by the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Kuwait to decide how to allocate funds. A World at School wants to make sure that education is on the agenda.

You too can join the push for education initiated by A World at School:

- Add your support to its ThunderClap page to tell leaders not to forget education at the pledging conference

- Join and promote a Google Hangout with the Youth Education Crisis Committee on 15 January

- Promote/tweet to the A World at School’s network: @aworldatschool for #childrenofsyria

- Use and share the organisation’s toolkit to be released soon that will include:

·         Donation function

·         Youth and community engagement tools

EI: campaigning for free quality public education for all

“We commend A World at School for its efforts to guarantee that children in Syria and the world over receive free quality public education,” EI General Secretary Fred van Leeuwen said. “Governments are responsible for financing quality education for all, via quality teacher training, quality teaching and learning environments and tools.”

He noted that educators and civil society organisations worldwide have already joined EI’s campaign, “Unite for Quality Education”.
