Togo: FESEN takes action to combat Child labour

In Togo, the teacher’s union FESEN trained 42 teachers and school principals to combat child labour. Taking place from August 2-4 in the prefecture of Sotouboua, the workshop kicked off a new FESEN project against child labour in the communes of Tchébébé, Adjengré and Aouda. The new initiative aims to replicate the success of a similar project implemented in 2019 and 2020 in Kazaboua, another locality of the prefecture.

Agricultural work, sand and gravel extraction, gold panning and domestic work are the main forms of child labor in the region.

Political, judicial, administrative, and traditional authorities support the FESEN workshop. Strategies for removing children from work and enrolling them in school on a sustainable basis were developed. Best practices to make school attractive to students were also identified.

This workshop is part of a project led by FESEN with the support of Mondiaal FNV, AOb, GEW Fair Childhood Foundation and Education International.
