EI Africa to Convene Migrants and Refugees Forum
Education International Africa, in cooperation with the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Education, will organize an online Forum on Wednesday, 29th April 2021 from 11:00 - 14:00 Accra Time/ 13:00 to 16:00 Geneva Time. The webinar will provide a platform for EI member organisations, policy makers, partners, and education stakeholders at national, regional, and global level to share information and experiences on the current challenges faced by migrants, refugees, and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the face of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The Webinar will be graced by notable personalities who will include: EI Africa Regional Committee Chairperson (Dr Christian Addai-Poku), UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Education (Dr Koumba Bolly-Barry), UN Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights of Migrants (Dr Felipe González Morales), Minister of State for Basic Education in Uganda (Honourable Rosemary Nansubuga Seninde) and African Union Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation (H. E. Professor Sarah Anyang Agbor). The webinar will be held under the theme “Promoting the Rights of Migrants, Refugees and IDPs to Quality Education”.
Other speakers will include prominent researchers on migration and refugees, UNHCR representatives as well as trade union leaders and refugee teachers from Europe, Asia Pacific, and Africa. The deliberations will inform the advocacy to urge governments to ensure that the right to the education of migrants and refugees is ensured. The information and perspectives shared during this webinar will also feed into the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Education’s upcoming report to the UN General Assembly on the right to education of migrants.
The webinar will provide simultaneous interpretation in English, French and Portuguese and its platform will allow for written input from all participants. We look forward to your active engagement, including questions and suggestions for EI Africa, policy makers and partners moving forward.
