West African education unions tackle gender equality and issues

The  workshop of the West African Women in Education Network, the sub-regional network of the Education International (EI) African Women in Education Network, brought together education union leaders, both women and men, from around the region to promote gender equality within the unions and society at large.

“This workshop was very successful and different from the previous ones, because it involved more young union leaders, and emphasised the need for the network to be more vibrant and visible,” said EI regional coordinator Anais Dayamba “It also managed to overcome language barriers that have in the past prevented more interaction within the network.”

Organised by the EI Africa Regional Office in Accra, Ghana, the 19 leaders travelled from Benin, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea Conakry, Liberia, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo to take part from 31 October to 2 November.
