Cameroon: Training of women on transformational leadership

The Réseau des Enseignant.es Syndicalistes d'Afrique Centrale (RESAC), EI Africa’s Sub Regional network for women, organised a Workshop on 14th August 2023, at the Marriot Metropolitan Hotel in Douala, Cameroon. The workshop was attended by 30 participants from Central African Republic (CAR), Congo Brazzaville, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, Chad, Gabon, and Cameroon.

The main purpose of the workshop, which was attended by the Secretary General of FECASE and the President of SYNTESPRIC, was to train participants on Transformational Leadership and ILO Convention 190. It is also aligned with the overall objective of the African Women in Education Network  (AWEN), which is to promote gender equality in educational unions  and to strengthen the capacity of gender-specific leaders in order to achieve high-quality education for all. Several presentations were made on Education International and its initiatives, AWEN and the regional networks of women and RESAC, as well as on transformational leadership, the results of EIRAF's research on women's leadership, ILO Convention 190 and the role of corporations in its ratification, and  EI's campaign on Education Financing. All of these presentations were followed by exchanges (questions/answers) and groupwork  activities to strengthen the participants’ training.

This workshop served as a platform for women in the education sector to share their experiences on gender equality issues, to strengthen relationship between teachers and education support personnel, and to disseminate best practices in the integration of gender into  union policies and constitutions.
