Mauritania: teachers urge government to negotiate

In a statement sent to EI, the SNES union welcomed the success of its recent day of action, which it organised on 11 April, but deplored the fact that the government was still not committed to entering negotiations.

SNES General Secretary, Sidi Idoumou Boudide, described how  “today, secondary teachers are more determined than ever to regain our natural position within Mauritanian society and to have at our disposal the means to guarantee our role as educators and role models.

EI firmly supports its member organisation in its struggle to secure trade union and collective bargaining rights, and to have agreements respected in Mauritania. EI calls on national authorities to join the negotiation table to discuss the challenges and find pragmatic solutions.
